The word Jacuzzi has become a common reference to a whirlpool or [[spa]], although Jacuzzi is actually the name of one company that designs and builds whirlpools and spas.  Since Jacuzzi was one of, if not the first, company to build these [[spa]]s, their name has become synonymous with all hot, bubbly tubs of water.  Much like the brand name Kleenex is synonymous with facial tissue. The original function of whirlpools was [[water masturbation]], later other massaging effects were discovered too. 

A [[hot tub]] is different in that a [[hot tub]] does not typically denote that the water will be jetted or turbulent, just hot.  [[Hot tub]]s were very popular in the 1970's, some made of wood like a very large wine barrel for people to sit in.
