Aiming a [[camera]] and [[flash]] squarely at a highly reflective mirror can result in a the flash blocking out any detail. Sometimes this provides adequate [[face hiding]] technique, but usually this results in a major distraction from the image. This problem can be avoided by disabling the flash on the camera, if there is sufficient ambient light, or if the camera works in low-light conditions.

The most common types of self shots are

Tripods are handy accessories for the selfpic artists. Boxes, chairs, and a stack of books can substitute in a pinch.

Some cameras have a full swivel LCD. This allows the photographer to see themselves in the LCD prior to the shutter snapping. However, small LCDs are difficult to see at any reasonable distance.
