homosexual, generally referring to males. Although lesbians are homosexuals and also sometimes refer to themselves as being gay - for instance, a gay bar could swing male or female, or both. Being gay is sometimes called playing for the other team.

No longer used as an expression of a happy emotional state; as in, Deck the Halls: Don we now our gay apparel

Also, formerly used as a female Christian name; as in, Enola Gay, but not so much so these days.
