Model release
A model release is a standard contract between photographer and a model. The release will spell out the compensation for the images and the uses for the images. A photographer will present a model with a release that wants to pay very little for any use of the image, and the model will want payment for a very limited use of the image. Agreeing to terms is what the model release handles.
A professional photographer knows he cannot do much of anything without a signed model release. Many will demand that a model release be signed before any modeling occurs. A model needs a photographer release which authorizes her to use the images given to her. Otherwise, a professional model knows she cannot do much at all with the images. These are professional arrangements.
At Voyeurweb, model releases are generally not required. Husbands/boyfriends taking pictures of their wives or girlfriends, or both, ought not require the models to sign a release. Everyone knows what will happen with the images. If unrelated, the photographer can allow the model to upload the images. For RedClouds, proper documentation of the model age may be required by law. For couples in a committed relationship, this is not a big deal.
Many VW contributors are approached by photographers for shoots. If she signs a model release, that contract will allow the photographer certain rights to use the images. Forget oral promises (as good as the paper they are NOT written on). The model release will rule. If the photographer wrote the release (or had someone write it for him), it will favor the photographer. Spell out the limit uses of the images produced before signing. If the oral promise was that the images will only be used at VW, ask why the model release is needed. The photographer can issue his release for the model to upload the images. She does not need to sign anything. Many photographers will insist it is required before shooting. Read any contract carefully before signing. Keep a copy for yourself. If your identity is not to be revealed, avoid signing any model release.
