The lotus position (Sanskrit: Padmasanam -- "lotus posture") is a cross-legged sitting sex position which originated in representations and meditative practices of Hinduism. It is an established part of the Hindu Yoga tradition. The position is said to resemble a lotus, encourage "proper" breathing and foster physical stability The male sits with his legs crossed with heels up against his buttocks, whence the "lotus position", while the female facing him, sits with her legs on both sides of him, kind of a "cowgirl" position. This one may take practise to get the rhythm right.
