Selfpic
Selfpics (also called selfshot, self shot selfportrait, self-portrait) are when the photographer is also the model. There are numerous techniques to taking your own picture. Some accomplished VW contributors take their pictures for all their contris. Erotic self portratits are called sexy self shots. The photographer/subject has full control over how she is presented to the viewer.
Techniques
Reflection - aiming the camera at a mirror or other reflective surface. This technique allows the photographer to view herself as she is taking the picture. The disadvantage of this technique is that the camera almost always is in the frame. Another disadvantage is the quality of glass/silver on the mirror, plus you need to clean the mirror before use, and where the mirror can be transported. edit needed: [examples uploaded - good shot; imperfections in mirror; outdoors?]
Self timer - camera feature giving the photographer a few seconds to become the model. The advantage to this technique is that the camera is no longer in the image; however, the photographer cannot see the subject when composing the frame. This either means too tightly framing or taking the image to be cropped at a later time. edit needed: [examples uploaded showing blooper and a good one]
Remote - Much like the self timer without the hurry. The photographer cannot frame the subject. Remotes come in wireless and cables. Not all cameras can use a remote.
Problems
Aiming a camera and flash squarely at a highly reflective mirror can result in a the flash blocking out any detail. Sometimes this provides adequate face hiding technique, but usually this results in a major distraction from the image. This problem can be avoided by disabling the flash on the camera, if there is sufficient ambient light, or if the camera works in low-light conditions.
Common Types
The most common types of self shots are
- Topless self shots: Shows her face and her titties
- Self shot underboobs: Show the lower part of her boobs
- Self shot tits: Does only show her tits, no face
- Nude self shot: Shows her in a nude state
Equipment
Tripods are handy accessories for the selfpic artists. Boxes, chairs, and a stack of books can substitute in a pinch.
Cable releases for digital cameras can be expensive. Some cameras come with remotes, but not all can be outfitted to use a remote.
Some cameras have a full swivel LCD. This allows the photographer to see themselves in the LCD prior to the shutter snapping. However, small LCDs are difficult to see at any reasonable distance.
35mm cameras have a host of inexpensive options, but are less practical for the VW contributor.
Patience is required for any selfpic artist. Expect a high percentage of bloopers.
