Contributor: When it was established in 1729, Baltimore laid further west than any other major Atlantic harbor and today it is the fifth busiest U.S. port. Contributor: Another way to travel over water is to use a bridge, like this one crossing the Potomac River that is named after . . . Frances Scott Key. In the foreground is the last remnant of the Aqueduct Bridge, built in 1834, that used to connect a canal on this side of the river to one on the other side of the river. Contributor: The larger arch of the old Aqueduct Bridge was to accommodate a railroad. Which also meant at one time, boats were floating over trains here. I got to leave now, because all this discussion of water makes me want to pee.
