| Contributor: The Library contains many treasured documents. Here is a copy of The Star-Spangled Banner hand written in1814, by its author, Francis Scott Key. He wrote new words to a popular London drinking song: To Anacreon in Heaven. And then in 1931, Congress adopted it as the U.S. national anthem. No wonder the U.S.A. likes to par-tay.

| Contributor: And where was Francis Scott Key inspired to write The Star-Spangled Banner? No, not at a pub. But here at Fort McHenry. More specifically he was on a ship about 13 kilometers (8 miles) away, while the British navy was bombarding Fort McHenry from the waters behind me. When? September 13-14, 1814 Battle of Baltimore during the War of 1812. Why? They were pissed at Americans stealing their drinking songs. (scavenger hunt: Wild Card: Historic Site)
