- Some Old farts used cameras that did not produce digital images that could be instantly reviewed. They exposed a thin strip of plastic with chemical properties sensitive to light. They sent a roll of these plastic exposures to a lab who added chemicals to reveal the image but reversed - the "negative" image. What was black is clear(white) and what was white turns out black. They called this crazy stuff film. And they waited days to see the images.
