Overwriting

Replacing and eliminating an existing file or image with a new one by keeping the previous file name (xxx.JPG) instead of renaming the file (yyy.JPG). This is usually done when uploading.

To avoid accidental overwriting of images, uploaders should use unique filenames. Retain the contri number-image number for ease of identification. Adding the wiki entry to that contri number in the filename also aids in identifying the image and making filename unique. For example, downloading an image from VW called 20010217-12345-0.jpg can be uploaded as wikiNikkiWW20010217-12345-0.jpg, which will become it's wiki image filename. If someone overwrites that image filename, it was not an accident.
